How this site handles personal data, in plain English.
Last updated 3 October 2026
The short version
- This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking.
- I only get personal data you choose to give me, for example when you email me or subscribe to the newsletter.
- I use it only for that: to reply to you, or to send you the newsletter. I never sell it.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete it at any time.
Who is responsible for your data
This website is run by Alekos (ItsAlekos), an independent maker based in Greece. I am the controller of the personal data described in this policy. For anything about your data, email hello@itsalekos.eu.
What happens when you visit
The site uses no cookies and no analytics or tracking tools, and nothing on it loads from another company's servers. Read why.
Like every website, the server that sends you these pages receives some technical data: your IP address, your browser and device type, the page you asked for, the page that linked you here and the time. The site is hosted by Bunny.net (BunnyWay d.o.o., Slovenia), which processes this data on my behalf only to deliver the site and keep it safe from abuse, in its data centres in Europe. I have switched its visitor logs off, so no record of your visit is kept. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in running a working, secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
If you use the dark mode switch, your choice (light or dark) is saved in your own browser's local storage so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device, and you can clear it at any time in your browser's settings.
When you write to me
If you email me, I receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. My email runs on Hostinger Mail (Hostinger International Ltd, Cyprus, a company founded in Lithuania), whose mail servers are in France and Germany.
I use your message only to reply and, if we go on to work together, to do that work. Legal basis: steps you ask for before a contract, or the contract itself (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), and otherwise my legitimate interest in answering messages (Article 6(1)(f)).
If you message me on a social network instead, that network's own privacy policy covers the conversation.
The newsletter
If you subscribe, your email address goes to Mailrelay (CPC Servicios Informáticos Aplicados a Nuevas Tecnologías S.L., Spain), which sends the newsletter for me. It handles your address only on my instructions and keeps it in data centres in Germany, with backups inside the European Economic Area.
Signing up takes two steps. After the form, Mailrelay emails you from newsletter@itsalekos.eu, and you're only subscribed once you click the link in that email. Mailrelay records when you signed up and confirmed, as proof that you agreed. When you send the form, your browser passes through Mailrelay's site for a moment on its way back here, so Mailrelay also receives the technical data any website does, such as your IP address.
I use your address only to send you the newsletter. I don't track whether you open my emails or which links you click: that tracking is switched off for every issue.
Every email has an unsubscribe link, and one click takes you off the list. You can also email me and I'll remove you. Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
Supporting me on Steady
The "Support me on Steady" button takes you to Steady (Steady Media GmbH, Germany). If you become a supporter, Steady handles your payment and account under its own privacy policy. It may share the details I need to manage your membership, such as your name and email address, and I use them only for that.
Links to other sites
This site links to other websites, such as social networks, the organisations I support and United24. When you follow a link, your browser may tell that site you came from here. What happens there is covered by its own privacy policy, not this one.
Who else handles your data
Only these services, each for the job described:
- Bunny.net (Slovenia): hosts the site. GDPR, privacy policy
- Hostinger (Cyprus and Lithuania): the domain and my email. Data Processing Addendum, privacy policy
- Steady (Germany): only if you choose to support me. Privacy policy
- Mailrelay (Spain): sends the newsletter, only if you subscribe. Data processing terms, privacy policy
The site's code is kept in a private repository on my own Forgejo server, hosted in Germany. It holds code only and never receives visitors' data.
I don't sell, rent or trade personal data, and I never will.
Transfers outside Europe
The site is hosted in the EU and delivered only from data centres in Europe, wherever you visit from.
Hostinger is in the EU, but to deliver email it also relies on providers outside it, Cloudflare among them, under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Article 46). Everything else on this list keeps your data in Europe.
How long I keep it
- Emails: as long as our conversation or our work together needs them. Ask me and I'll delete them, unless the law requires me to keep something, such as invoices for tax purposes.
- Newsletter: your address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask me to remove you. After that it stays marked as unsubscribed, so you're never emailed again by mistake, unless you ask me to delete it completely.
- Server data: not kept. Bunny.net's visitor logs are switched off for this site, and I keep no copies.
- Your dark mode choice: in your browser until you clear it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask me to:
- show you the personal data I hold about you (Article 15)
- correct it (Article 16)
- delete it (Article 17)
- limit how I use it (Article 18)
- give it to you in a format you can take elsewhere (Article 20)
- stop using it where I rely on legitimate interests (Article 21)
Email hello@itsalekos.eu. It's free, and I'll answer within one month, as the law requires.
Complaints
If you think I've handled your data wrongly, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Greece, where I'm based, that's the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, or you can go to the authority where you live (list of EU authorities).
Changes to this policy
If anything here changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
